Union Carbide Corporation (UCC-4) was an American chemical and polymer company that was involved in a wide range of businesses including chemicals, agricultural products, consumer products, and industrial products. The company was founded in 1917 and operated as a subsidiary of Dow Chemical Company before being acquired by The Dow Chemical Company in 2001. Throughout its history, Union Carbide Corporation faced controversy and legal issues, notably the Bhopal disaster in 1984, where a toxic gas leak at one of its plants in India resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries. Today, Union Carbide Corporation is no longer in operation and its assets and legacy are part of The Dow Chemical Company.
